Located at Trentham, in the State of Victoria, Australia.

 

The stud was formed in October 1967, at “ Torr Down ”, Kingston, South Devon, England.

 

Between 1967-82 Torr Down South Devons were exported to Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, U.S.A., Zambia and the first South Devon to Brazil in 1974.

  

 

 

Emigrated with family and a nucleus of 22 South Devons, to Victoria, Australia in 1982, including:-

Both Breed & Interbreed Champions, at Royal & Country Shows in Australia.

Polling has been developed since 1980,with only superior type animals retained. Occasional introduction of top English Poll and Horn bloodlines to widen the genetics, now sees the stud 95% poll.

South Australia, Government Sponsored Trial.

Mated to Hereford Cows, Hermes 3 cross progeny had higher carcase weights and eye muscle scores than Limousin & Angus x progeny at average age of 451 days

  

Western Australia. Prestigious Feed & Efficiency Trial, involving 26 South Devon Bulls by 18 different sires. The only Hermes 3 son was the top performing bull by a substantial margin. 

 

Canada. A Herd bull Trial, involving 24 South Devon Bulls. The only Hermes son had the highest weight gain over 72 days, of 3.6 lbs per day.

The average was 2.6 lbs per day.

  

South Africa. In a Feed Efficiency Trial all 3 Hermes 3 sons   gained the

 highest accolade, a Gold Merit award. Fed for 4 months they gained

1.875 kgs [ 4.13 lbs ]   2.155 kgs [4.74lbs] & 2.161 kgs [4.75 lbs ] per day

Their feed conversion rates were 5.42, 5.20, & 5.11 kgs  of feed to gain 1kg [ 2.2lbs ] of weight.

 

The best bull [a poll] has been chosen to represent the breed against all breeds, at the Pretoria Show on August 29 ’07.

South Devon genetics, when infused with other British Breeds, will increase growth and carcase weight, as well as improving docility and maternal traits.
